You never know what might happen at the dojo during our Friday Open Gym session...or who might show up. Take last Friday for example: it was full of surprises.
First of all, we had three guest black belts out on the training floor. Considering how long it had been since some of them had even put on a gi (for one of them, it had been a year and a half) this was quite some event.
Of course, I had to rib the three of them good-naturedly about how they had supposedly gone soft and forgotten a lot. Perhaps Matt and Michael Hickman and Isaac Prewett felt compelled to prove me wrong. At any rate, it was exciting to see them spar, grapple, and wield a chanbara sword or two.
Our students who were there were not to be outdone. They geared up as well, and were eager to face each other in the ring. Trevor wasn't content just to spar with his dojo-mates; he wanted to have it at with our guests as well. Good for him to take advantage of that opportunity!
It was a lot of fun to observe the action out on the training floor. Although our guests may have been a bit rusty, and I heard mild complaints about a couple of them being out of shape, they did manage to convince me that they hadn't forgotten everything. In fact, all in all, they did OK.
If you weren't there on Friday, I'm sorry you missed out on the excitement. Be sure to be there for our next open gym, Friday evening at 6:00 on February 10. You don't want to miss whatever surprises might be in store for us!
Reminder: the demo practice will also be held during that open gym. If you want to take part in our martial arts demonstration during the anniversary celebration on February 18, it's important that you be there.
