On our way!

Two different plane rides...a lot of waiting at airports...beautiful views of the clouds...an exciting lightning storm...and we were finally in Louisiana. It's hot and humid, but not quite as bad as I had dreaded.

Sempai Miriam has announced that she actually likes the heat. Our students need not worry that I will allow her to carry out her threat to keep the windows forever closed in our dojo and crank up the heat in an attempt to recreate Louisiana training conditions.

Today we spend a little time in the dojo training weapons: bo, sai, kama, and tunfa. Then, after lunch, we took a pair of sai to Sensei Gilliland's back yard and practiced the application of part of the kata by actually throwing the sai ♠ at a tree stump instead of at each other's feet. It was a lot of fun, but don't try this at home. One of the sai didn't survive. Plus I got bitten by some horrid bugs. But, other than that, it was a lot of fun.
