One of the challenges of teaching as a family, with no other black belt instructors, is that we can't be in two places at the same time. Thus, we're left with the sticky decision of what to do about vacations, traveling to tournaments, etc. Do we go, requiring us to cancel classes? Or do we stay, requiring us to miss competitions, vacations, a normal life?
It's hard not to feel torn. There is no good solution. So, this summer, we planned ahead, anticipated, scheduled. We've supplied our students with plenty of advanced notice, and a summer calendar. Planning and organizing inspired me. Since summer is typically a time when students are tempted to drop out, we wanted to reward the dedicated students.
On Tuesday, we did board breaking. Students "earned" boards by their class attendance during June. They were pretty hyped about the board breaking, and we had a lot of fun.
We have some other special events planned for the rest of the summer, with more rewards for diligence and dedication.
Today I felt like praying benedictions over my students, and I did. They will be missed. I'm eager to return for the adventures we have planned for the rest of the summer.
